For Creative Talk #13, POETIC brings together two practices rooted in the North and shaped by questions of body, landscape, memory, material and ritual.
Both Nazaré Soares and Marita Isobel Solberg work across disciplines, and both are concerned with forms of knowledge that resist easy representation: what is carried in water, in voice, in material, in landscape and in the body.
Nazaré Soares Invisible Architectures, Bodies of Water
Nazaré Soares is an interdisciplinary artist and curator working across film, sound, performance, ritual and ecological research.
Her earlier work examined architecture through sound and cinema. Space was approached through listening, movement and bodily orientation rather than through form alone. These investigations gradually moved out of the exhibition space and into landscape, collective practice and ecological research.
In The Witch Trails of Vardø, developed in Finnmark, histories of persecution, medicinal plants, water and place are brought into relation. The work treats landscape as something layered and inhabited by memory, rather than as a neutral backdrop.
Water has become increasingly central to Soares' practice. In projects including Water Holds the Shell of the Skin, a Cluster of Cells and the research platform Bathing & Beyond, bathing, heat, plants, coastal environments and aquatic movement become part of the artistic method.
Here, water is not simply a setting or material. It is approached as a body with its own histories, movements and agency.
At Creative Talk, Soares will speak about the development of her practice from sonic and cinematic architectures towards water, bathing and coastal landscapes, including current work connected to Eden Baths on Averøy.
Her work raises questions that sit close to architecture: what changes when a place is understood through relationships rather than objects? What happens when water, landscape and other forms of life are treated as participants rather than surroundings?
Marita Isobel Solberg Containing the Unseen
Marita Isobel Solberg is a visual artist, performer, musician and composer based in Tromsø.
Her work moves between performance, sculpture, ceramics, sound and voice. Clay, wool, earth, water and organic matter appear repeatedly, not as scenery, but as working materials with physical and cultural weight.
Voice occupies a central position in her practice. Solberg works with singing, joik, chanting, overtone techniques and improvisation, exploring voice as vibration, bodily force and carrier of memory.
Her work is grounded in the cultural landscapes of the North, including Kven and Sámi contexts, and often develops through collaboration with artists, musicians, dancers and performers.
Rather than separating object, performer and place, Solberg's works tend to bring them into the same field. Sound affects space. Materials carry traces. Bodies become part of the work's architecture.
For Creative Talk, she will speak about voice, ritual, material and place, and about artistic processes that create conditions for listening, exchange and transformation.

The meeting between Soares and Solberg opens a field between architecture and art where space is understood through more than what can be drawn or built.
Water, voice, memory, material and landscape all shape how a place is experienced.
